It was announced on Tuesday that the University of Redlands baseball team lands 20th in the nation on the D3baseball.com Preseason Top-25 list. This honor complements the Maroon and Gray's ranking of No. 15 on the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper's poll, which was available in late December.
According to D3baseball.com, the Bulldogs earned a total of 170 points, placing them as the third team in the West Region behind top-five squads No. 2 Chapman University and No. 4 Linfield College (OR).
Last year, Redlands put together one of the most impressive seasons in program history, registering a 30-13 record en route to the 2011 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Championship. As a result, the Bulldogs earned a trip to the NCAA Championships, where the squad recorded its first postseason victory since 1985.
Despite the loss of three big-time seniors, Redlands returns the core of the starters, including All-Region senior shortstop Chase Tucker (Poway, CA) and senior second baseman Cameron Lowe (Olympia, WA). In addition, the pitching staff welcomes back its likely ace in junior Kyle Hart (Burbank, CA).
Redlands opens the 2012 season on Feb. 10 at 2 p.m. when it takes on Austin College (TX) at The Yard.
