UR Men’s Tennis Posts Solid Results at 112th Ojai Tournament

Seven singles players and four doubles duos represented the University of Redlands men's tennis team at the 112th Ojai Valley Tournament over the weekend, gaining solid results against opponents from fellow NCAA Division III schools.  The Bulldogs notched five first-round victories in singles while three doubles teams advanced.

Highlighting the event for the Maroon and Gray, freshman Patrick Lipscomb (Irvine, CA) earned a spot in the Round of 16 after pulling out a three-set victory over Patricio Carregha from Whittier College.  The match went the distance with Lipscomb prevailing by scores of 6-4, 2-6, 6-4.

During his subsequent match, Lipscomb lost in three sets to Andre Halabi from UC Santa Cruz, 2-6, 6-4, 6-4.

Freshman Jack Reynolds (Denver, CO), senior Mark Bloom (San Juan Capistrano, CA), juniors Darren Dahl (Westlake Village, CA) and Anish Nanda (Cerritos, CA) all prevailed in their first-round matches.  Nanda was the only Bulldog to advance in straight sets as he downed his opponent from George Fox University, 6-0, 6-2.

In doubles action, the No. 4 seed of Lipscomb and Bloom advanced to the quarterfinal round after a bye and an 8-6 showing over their Cal Lutheran counterparts.

Furthermore, freshman Gram Leahy (Portland, OR) and Nanda teamed up for an 8-6 victory against Santa Cruz foes during the opening round.  The rookie duo of Parker Glore (Huntington Beach, CA) and Max Licona (Culver City, CA) also came out on top in their first-round match, posting a score of 8-5 over players from Cal Lutheran.

Redlands (15-7, 3-3 SCIAC) looks forward to hosting the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Championship Tournament on Friday and Saturday.  The Bulldogs enter the event as the No. 4 seed and face fifth-seeded Whittier College at 10 a.m. on Verdieck Courts.
