It was announced on Wednesday that two members of the University of Redlands men's tennis team have been selected to compete in the 2012 NCAA Division III Individual Championships in Cary, NC, on May 24-26.
Freshman Patrick Lipscomb (Irvine, CA) enters the singles draw of 32 with an overall season mark of 16-9 as the Bulldogs' No. 1 player. He put together a 12-match winning streak to start the season, which was highlighted by victories over foes from NCAA Division II opponent, No. 19 UC San Diego, and the 10th-ranked singles player from No. 8 Trinity University (TX).
In addition, Lipscomb joins forces with senior Mark Bloom (San Juan Capistrano, CA) as one of 16 doubles team to advance to the national tournament. They own a season record of 15-11 in their first year competing together for the Maroon and Gray. Earlier this year, the duo came up with an exciting 8-6 victory over the top team from No. 6 UC Santa Cruz. In addition, Lipscomb and Bloom boast doubles triumphs against a pair of top-10 nationally-ranked NAIA schools.
The draw for the individual championship will be released on May 23, which is the last day of the men's tennis team championships.
