The No. 17 University of Redlands men's tennis team made it four in a row in five days with a 9-0 victory over No. 25 Swarthmore College (PA) on Wednesday. The Bulldogs swept the doubles and then polished off the singles with straight-set triumphs throughout the line-up.
In doubles, senior Connor Hyde (Peterborough, NH) and sophomore Nick Cummins (Rancho Mirage, CA) impressed at the No. 2 slot by cruising to an 8-1 win. Seniors Anish Nanda (Cerritos, CA) and John Brewer (Portland, OR) followed their lead with an 8-4 showing at the No. 2 slot, before sophomores Patrick Lipscomb (Irvine, CA) and Gram Leahy (Portland, OR) finished off the Bulldogs' sweep with their 8-5 performance at No. 1.
In singles, Lipscomb and Cummins took down their respective opponents to secure the team's seventh overall win of the season. At the top spot, Lipscomb prevailed by scores of 6-4, 6-2, before Cummins came off the No. 2 court with a 6-3, 6-4 effort.
Hyde, Nanda, Brewer, and sophomore Taylor Hunt (Seattle, WA) also recorded singles victories in straight sets, resulting in the shutout decision for the Maroon and Gray.
Redlands (7-3, 1-0 SCIAC) returns to Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) competition when it hosts No. 6 Cal Lutheran University on Saturday at 11 a.m. on Verdieck Courts.
