The 11th-ranked University of Redlands men's tennis team cruised to an 8-1 victory over Chapman University in Friday's Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) showdown at the Anaheim Hills Tennis Center. After taking a 2-1 lead through doubles, the Bulldogs prevailed in all six singles matches, winning five of them in straight sets.
Although the Panthers responded by winning the No. 3 doubles match, the Maroon and Gray answered right back with a hard-fought 9-7 showing by sophomores Gram Leahy (Portland, OR) and Patrick Lipscomb (Irvine, CA) at the top slot.
The Bulldogs took care of business in singles, with the first four matches coming in impressive fashion. Sophomore Taylor Hunt (Seattle, WA) dismissed his No. 4 opponent by scores of 6-2, 6-0, before senior Anish Nanda (Cerritos, CA) captured a solid 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 5. Leading 4-1, the Maroon and Gray looked to Cummins to secure the deciding point with his 6-2, 6-1 performance at the No. 2 slot. Furthermore, senior John Brewer (Portland, OR) came off the No. 6 court with his 6-0, 6-1 win.
In addition, Lipscomb and Hyde registered singles triumphs for the Bulldogs.
