With a total-team effort, the No. 12 University of Redlands men's tennis team fired off an 8-1 victory over Occidental College during Saturday's Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) match on Verdeick Courts. The Bulldogs nabbed a doubles sweep before capturing two-set victories in all but one of the singles matches en route to their 12th win of the season.
Redlands' top tandem of sophomores Patrick Lipscomb (Irvine, CA) and Gram Leahy (Portland, OR) rolled to an 8-2 showing, before the No. 3 duo of sophomores Max Licona (Culver City, CA) and Teddy Jones (St. Louis, MO) joined forces for an 8-4 win.
Sophomore Nick Cummins (Rancho Mirage, CA) and senior Connor Hyde (Peterborough, NH) rallied for a come-from-behind triumph at No. 2, securing the Bulldogs' sweep of doubles with their tight 9-7 decision.
In singles, Cummins continued his momentum from the hard-fought doubles win to blank his opponent at No. 3, before sophomore Taylor Hunt (Seattle, WA) made quick work of his No. 4 counterpart by scores of 6-0, 6-2.
Redlands (12-8, 4-2 SCIAC) currently sits in third place in the conference standings. The Bulldogs host No. 22 Pomona-Pitzer Colleges for Senior Day on Friday, April 19, at 2 p.m. on Verdieck Courts.
