Patrick Lipscomb Becomes All-American in Singles with Spot in the Quarterfinals of the NCAA Individual Championships
After winning a pair of matches on the opening day of competition, sophomore Patrick Lipscomb (Irvine, CA) advanced to the quarterfinal round of the 2013 NCAA Division III Individual Championships for Singles to become an Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-American. This honor complements his All-America award for doubles, which came last season during the individual tournament.
Due to rainy weather in Kalamazoo, MI, the 2013 event was moved inside, providing Lipscomb with his first-ever indoor match of his tennis career.
After a shaky start, Lipscomb dropped the first set but then settled in to defeat Ben Shklyar of the University of Wisconsin at Whitewater by scores of 2-6, 6-3, 6-4.
During the Round of 16, Lipscomb performed at a more consistent level, knocking off Hayden White of Washington & Lee University (VA), 7-5, 6-2.
Lipscomb takes to the court in tomorrow's quarterfinal against the winner of Kevin Caufield (Haverford College) and Adam Putterman (Washington University – St. Louis). Friday's match time is set for 11 a.m. EST, back on the campus of Kalamazoo.
