Redlands Hosts Semifinal Game in SCIAC Postseason Tournament Thursday

The University of Redlands women’s basketball team plays host to the University of La Verne this Thursday, Feb. 26, in the semifinal round of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Postseason Tournament.

Tip-off for the game is set for 7:30 p.m. in Currier Gym. Tickets are $5 for adults, $2 for children 12 and under and senior citizens 55 and older and free to Redlands and La Verne staff/students with ID.

Redlands (19-6, 11-3 SCIAC) takes on a La Verne team (18-6, 10-4) that beat the Bulldogs back on Jan. 22 in Currier Gym. On Feb. 14, the Maroon and Gray avenged the January loss with a solid 58-53 victory against the Leopards and with a win over Caltech on Saturday, earned the No. 2 seed in the SCIAC Postseason Tournament.

Occidental College (20-5, 12-2 SCIAC) owns the conference’s top record and garners both the top seed in the SCIAC Postseason Tournament and the distinction of being the 2009 SCIAC Champions. The Tigers take on Whittier College (16-9, 8-6 SCIAC) Thursday evening at 7:30 p.m. in Rush Gymnasium on Occidental’s campus in Eagle Rock.

The winner of both games will meet in the SCIAC Postseason Tournament Final, which will occur on Saturday at 5 p.m. on the home court of the highest-remaining seed. The team that wins the SCIAC Postseason Tournament earns the SCIAC’s automatic bid into the 2009 NCAA Championships.
