The University of Redlands women's golf team defeated Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges, 359-367, at the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) 18-hole No. 2 Friday afternoon at the par-72, 5,858-yard Empire Lakes Golf Club in Rancho Cucamonga.
A scorecard error by a Claremont-Mudd-Scripps golfer proved costly as her actual score of 81—which would have been tied for the best card between the two squads—was thrown out, giving the victory to Redlands. An incorrect signed scorecard results in the disqualification of that individual.
Sophomore Tracy Saracino (Englewood, CO) led the Bulldogs individually with an 81, which placed second in the field. Senior Staci Walsh (Shoreline, WA) took third with a score of 87, while senior Paige VanArsdall (Lakewood, WA) claimed fifth (90). Senior Remy Kawaguchi (Bellevue, WA) and freshman Lauren Hood (Shoreview, MN) rounded out the Redlands golfers that scored, firing off rounds of 101 (ninth) and 106 (11th), respectively.
Junior Janae Alvarez (Thermal, CA), freshman Haley Peterson (Gladstone, OR) and junior Karly George (Mission Viejo, CA) all competed but did not factor in the Maroon and Gray's counted scores.
Tori Leon of Occidental College shot a 7-over 79 to capture medalist honors. Leon golfed as an individual and did not affect the team scoring.
Redlands finishes out its season with the SCIAC 18-hole No. 3 on Sunday, April 25, at the East Valley Golf Club in Beaumont. The first tee time is set for 10 a.m.
