Second-Half Scoring Lifts Bulldog Women's Lacrosse to 18-10 Triumph over Pomona-Pitzer
The University of Redlands women's lacrosse team continued its impressive run through the 2012 campaign by taking down the Sagehens of Pomona-Pitzer Colleges for a second time this season. The Bulldogs broke open a 7-7 first-half tie with five unanswered goals to start the second period en route to an 18-10 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) victory.
The Sagehens opened the game with back-to-back netters in the first three minutes.
The remainder of the first period saw the teams continue to trade punches, leading to the halftime deadlock.
However, the Maroon and Gray erupted for five straight goals through the 24:16-mark of the second stanza, leading to a 12-7 advantage. Highlighting this run, McCaslin connected on two assists from senior attack player Blair Callaghan (Tacoma, WA) to initiate this outburst.
Although Pomona-Pitzer kept it close through the midway point of the period, the Bulldogs uncorked another five-goal explosion to put the game away. Junior attack player Crystal Painter (Lake George, NY) led this impressive charge with her back-to-back scores in the final 2:13 of the game.
McCaslin finished with a team-high four goals and one assist, while Callaghan dished out four assists for the Bulldogs. In addition, sophomore midfielder Jacky Craycraft (Trabuco Canyon, CA), senior midfielder Megan Prickett (Poway, CA), junior attack player Aimee Dewan (Alamo, CA), Wilgus and Painter all provided multi-netter efforts.
Craycraft and Painter powered the Maroon and Gray draw controls, racking up six and five, respectively.
Finally, Martinez collected nine saves in her 11th win of the year in a complete-game performance.
Logan Galansky led the Sagehen offense with four goals and two assists.
