Bulldog Women Compete in NCAA Individual Championships

Three members of the University of Redlands women’s tennis team competed in the 2009 NCAA Individual Championships on Friday in Lawrenceville, Georgia.
Junior Paige Sumida (Hilo, HI) highlighted the tough tournament with her first-round victory over Carlissa King of Amherst College (MA), 6-3, 6-2.
During the Round of 16, she suffered a difficult three-set lost to Laura Chen of Carnegie Mellon University (PA), 6-7 (3), 6-4, 6-3.
In doubles, Sumida joined forces with junior Whitney Waters (Austin, TX) but came up short against Kristin Cobb and Marta Drane from Denison University in the first round, 6-1, 6-4.
Junior Rachael Miller (Newport Beach, CA) also competed in singles for the Bulldogs, falling to the eventual champion, Lorne McManigle from Emory University, by scores of 6-2, 6-2.
