No. 24 Bulldog Women's Tennis Unleashes 9-0 Triumph against Vanguard to Open Season

The No. 24 University of Redlands women's tennis team opened the 2013 season with an impressive 9-0 win over the visiting Lions of Vanguard University on Saturday at Verdieck Courts. The Bulldogs recorded shutouts in eight of the 15 sets played between the doubles and singles.

Redlands quickly got on the board when sophomore Julia Pollak (Holland, PA) and freshman Natalie Etchegaray (Placentia, CA) combined efforts at No. 2 to crushed their opponents by a score of 8-0.

Junior Paige Press (La Jolla, CA) and sophomore Maddie Morton (Henderson, NV) followed suit with an 8-1 performance at the No. 3 slot.

Junior Jessica Ly (Torrance, CA) and sophomore Ceara Sumida (Hilo, HI) secured the doubles sweep by taking down their counterparts at No. 1 in an 8-2 decision.

The Maroon and Gray's domination continued in singles, with Etchegaray, Pollak, and Morton all recording 6-0, 6-0 showings at Nos. 2, 5, and 6, respectively.

Ly, Press, and Sumida also nabbed straight-set victories en route to the Bulldogs' 9-0 effort.

Redlands (1-0) jumps right into Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) competition on Sat., Feb. 9, when it travels to Cal Lutheran University for an 11 a.m. match.
