No. 24 Redlands Women's Tennis Cruises to 7-2 Victory over No. 22 Brandeis
The No. 24 University of Redlands women's tennis team rolled to a 7-2 victory over visiting Brandeis University (MA) on Saturday at Verdieck Courts. The Bulldogs swept the doubles in impressive fashion before unleashing two-set wins in four of the six singles.
The No. 2 tandem of sophomore Julia Pollak (Holland, PA) and freshman Natalie Etchegaray (Placentia, CA) recorded an 8-1 victory to initiate the Maroon and Gray's scoring. Junior Jessica Ly (Torrance, CA) and sophomore Ceara Sumida (Hilo, HI) put together an 8-2 effort at the No. 1 spot against the 19th-ranked duo, before the freshman team of Lauren Villanueva (El Segundo, CA) and Gabriela Vasquez (Rancho Santa Margarita, CA) fired off an 8-2 performance of its own at No. 3.
In singles, Pollak, Sumida, and sophomore Maddie Morton (Henderson, NV) each topped their opponents before Brandeis mustered a pair of match-wins. Pollak polished off her No. 4 opponent, 6-2, 6-1, and Sumida came away with a 6-4, 6-2 triumph at No. 3. Morton kept things going for the Maroon and Gray by downing her No. 5 opponent at 6-2, 6-2. Etchegaray also nabbed a 6-3, 7-6(5) showing at No. 2 to cap off the Bulldogs' 7-2 win.
Redlands (4-0) takes a break from competition for Spring Break and then returns to face regional rival Trinity University (TX) on Fri., March 8, at 2 p.m. on Verdieck Courts.
