It was announced late Thursday that the University of Redlands women's tennis team moved up nine spots on the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division III National Poll to No. 13 in the nation.
Redlands is one of three schools from the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) to land among the nation's top 15.
The Bulldogs have rattled off seven straight victories, including four against ranked opponents, to start the 2013 season. Recently, Redlands upset then-No. 13 Trinity University (TX) in an important regional showdown on March 8.
Junior Jessica Ly (Torrance, CA) leads the Maroon and Gray with her strong contributions at the No. 1 singles and doubles spots. She combines forces with sophomore Ceara Sumida (Hilo, HI), who also holds down the No. 3 singles position. Newcomer Natalie Etchegaray (Placentia, CA) rounds out the top three singles players for the Bulldogs.
Redlands (7-0) is currently battling it out with No. 17 Skidmore College (NY) at UC Santa Cruz. The Bulldogs also face the 28th-ranked Banana Slugs on Saturday and then take on No. 27 Whitman College (WA) on Sunday.
