No. 13 Redlands Women's Tennis Makes it 10 in a Row with Win over Whitman
The No. 13 University of Redlands women's tennis team notched its 10th consecutive win of the season with Sunday's 5-4 victory over No. 27 Whitman College (WA) in Santa Cruz. After a solid 2-1 start in doubles, the Bulldogs won the first three singles matches to secure the overall triumph.
While taking on the 10th-ranked doubles duo in the country, sophomore Ceara Sumida (Hilo, HI) and junior Jessica Ly (Torrance, CA) registered the first point for the Bulldogs with their 8-4 performance at the No. 1 doubles slot.
After the Missionaries came up with a tight win in the final doubles match by way of a tiebreaker, the Maroon and Gray rattled off three consecutive triumphs in singles to secure the deciding points. Junior Paige Press (La Jolla, CA), Pollak, and sophomore Maddie Morton (Henderson, NV) took care of business with two-set showings in their respective singles matches at Nos. 4, 5, and 6. Press knocked off her opponent by scores of 6-3, 6-2, while Pollak and Morton both secured 6-1, 6-0 triumphs.
Although Whitman came back to win the remaining singles matches, the Bulldogs' 10th victory was never in question.
Redlands (10-0) returns to Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) action on Friday when it hosts Chapman University in a 2 p.m. showdown on Verdieck Courts.
