The 10th-ranked University of Redlands women's tennis team continued to roll with an 8-1 victory over Whittier College in Friday's Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) showdown. The Bulldogs grabbed a sweep in the doubles, before recording five straight-set triumphs in singles for the team's 13th win of the season.
Junior Jessica Ly (Torrance, CA) and sophomore Ceara Sumida (Hilo, HI) made quick work of their opponents with an 8-2 performance at the No. 1 slot. Sophomore Julia Pollak (Holland, PA) and freshman Natalie Etchegaray (Placentia, CA) came off the No. 2 court with an 8-5 victory, before sophomore Maddie Morton (Henderson, NV) and freshman Gabriela Vasquez (Mission Viejo, CA) completed the sweep with their 8-3 effort at No. 3.
Etchegaray initiated the singles scoring by taking down her No. 2 opponent by scores of 6-2, 6-1. Junior Paige Press (La Jolla, CA) put this one in the books for the Maroon and Gray with her 6-3, 6-0 dismantling at No. 4. In addition, Morton, Pollak, and Sumida recorded singles triumphs, with Morton highlighting the trio with her shut-out performance at No. 6.
Redlands (13-0, 3-0 SCIAC) welcomes Gustavus Adolphus College (MN) to Verdieck Courts on Tuesday for a 3 p.m. non-conference bout.
