The No. 10 University of Redlands women's tennis team recorded its 14th consecutive win of the season with Tuesday's 8-1 trouncing of Gustavus Adolphus College (MN) on Verdieck Courts. The Bulldogs won the first two doubles matches off the court before dominating the singles action at every position.
Junior Jessica Ly (Torrance, CA) and sophomore Ceara Sumida (Hilo, HI) initiated the scoring for Redlands by dismissing their No. 1 counterpart in an 8-1 performance. Sophomore Julia Pollak (Holland, PA) and freshman Natalie Etchegaray (Placentia, CA) also took care of business, with their 8-3 showing at the No. 2 slot.
Although the Gusties cut the deficit with a hard-fought 8-6 effort at No. 3, the Bulldogs regained control of the match by rattling off six, straight-set victories in singles. Pollak, Etchegaray, and sophomore Maddie Morton (Henderson, NV) left no doubt for the Maroon and Gray, prevailing against their respective Nos. 5, 2, and 6 opponents while recording one shutout set apiece.
In addition, Sumida, junior Paige Press (La Jolla, CA) and Ly recorded victories for the Bulldogs.
Redlands (14-0, 3-0 SCIAC) returns to Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) competition on Friday when it hosts the newly-ranked Leopards of the University of La Verne, which enters the national poll in a tie at No. 30. Friday's first serve is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Verdieck Courts.
