While improving to 15-0 on the season, the No. 10 University of Redlands women's tennis team dominated the 30th-ranked University of La Verne in Friday's Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) competition on Verdieck Courts. The Bulldogs captured every doubles point before winning all six singles matches in straight sets for the 9-0 performance.
Playing at No. 2 doubles, sophomore Julia Pollak (Holland, PA) and freshman Natalie Etchegaray (Placentia, CA) earned the first victory for the Maroon and Gray with an 8-3 decision. The top tandem of junior Jessica Ly (Torrance, CA) and sophomore Ceara Sumida (Hilo, HI) followed suit by defeating the No. 1 counterparts, 8-4.
In singles, Redlands dropped no more than three games apiece at Nos. 4, 5, and 6, en route to an impressive trouncing. Pollak fired off scores of 6-0, 6-0, against her No. 5 opponent, before junior Paige Press (La Jolla, CA) nearly repeated the effort at No. 4 to clinch the Bulldogs' win with her 6-1, 6-1 effort. Morton added to the barrage by downing her No. 6 counterpart, 6-1, 6-2.
In addition, Ly, Etchegaray, and Sumida also recorded wins in singles.
With today's results, the Maroon and Gray tennis team owns more wins with an undefeated record than it accomplished in each of the previous three seasons.
Redlands (15-0, 4-0 SCIAC) faces its biggest challenge of the campaign when it welcomes No. 2 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges to Verdieck Courts for an important SCIAC match on Saturday at 10 a.m.
