It was announced late Thursday that the University of Redlands women's tennis program collected a preseason ranking of No. 11 on the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division III National Poll, equaling the team's final position from last spring. In addition, the Bulldogs sit third among the top schools in the West Region.
Overall, Redlands is one of four schools within the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) to earn a preseason ranking, illustrating the depth and talent of the conference competitors.
Ranked No. 9 in the region for singles, senior Jessica Ly (Torrance, CA) enters her final campaign as the 2013 ITA National Player to Watch. Last season, she led the team to a program-best record of 20-4 and became an ITA All-American in doubles with teammate, junior Ceara Sumida (Hilo, HI). This tandem joins forces with the region's 10th-ranked singles competitor in sophomore Natalie Etchegaray (Placentia, CA) for a formidable trio to this year's lineup.
Furthermore, the Bulldogs return five additional starters and look forward to the contributions of a dynamic freshman duo to solidify the tenacious roster.
Redlands kicks off the 2014 campaign with its annual alumnae match on February 1 before heading to Chapman University for a conference contest on February 15.
