It was announced earlier today that University of Redlands women's tennis players, senior Jessica Ly (Torrance, CA) and junior Ceara Sumida (Hilo, HI), qualified for the NCAA Division III Individual Championships, which take place May 22-24 at nearby Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges. Ly represents the Bulldogs in singles while also joining forces with Sumida as a formidable doubles duo at the premiere postseason event.
Both players make their inaugural appearances at the NCAA individual championships.
Ly secured the No. 1 spot in singles throughout her final campaign at Redlands, earning an 11-10 record amidst a challenging slate of foes. She prevailed over five opponents from top-30 teams while all but one of her defeats came against counterparts from nationally-ranked squads.
Last season, Ly was named the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) West Regional and National Player to Watch.
In doubles, she and Sumida have competed at the top of the Bulldogs' lineup throughout 2014, amassing a 13-9 record this spring. They put together a five-match winning streak that covered most of the month of April.
As of the May 1 rankings, the Redlands duo sits second in the West Region.
