It was announced Wednesday afternoon that senior Jessica Ly (Torrance, CA) and sophomore Natalie Etchegaray (Placentia, CA) of the University of Redlands women's tennis team landed on the All-Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) First Team, as voted upon by the respective head coaches.
Both players played an instrumental role in the Bulldogs' third-place finish at the 2014 SCIAC Championship Tournament.
Ly becomes just the third Bulldog women's tennis player in Redlands history to garner First-Team status each season of her four-year career.
During the current campaign, Ly shored up the No. 1 singles spot and joined forces with junior Ceara Sumida (Hilo, HI) as a formidable doubles duo at the top of the lineup. In SCIAC competition, she put together a 7-4 record while winning five of her last six conference matches.
In addition, Ly advances to the NCAA Individual Championships for the first time, qualifying in both singles and doubles. Competition begins May 22 at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges.
Etchegaray earns her second First-Team award in as a many seasons with the Bulldogs. While competing at the No. 2 spot in singles, she also registered a 7-4 record in conference action. She teamed up with junior Julia Pollak (Holland, PA) for a solid doubles duo at No. 2.
Redlands was one of two schools from the SCIAC to receive two First-Team selections, with Pomona-Pitzer Colleges also collecting a pair of honorees.
