It was announced on Friday that the University of Redlands men's and women's cross country teams each received Team All-Academic recognition from the U.S. Track & Field Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). In addition, junior Joseph Esparza (Arcata, CA) and sophomore Maria Ramirez (Orange, CA) represented the Bulldogs among the USTFCCCA Individual All-Academic selections.
In order to qualify as a team, the Bulldogs successfully compiled a team score at the NCAA West Regional meet late last fall while maintaining a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.10 or higher. With 14 on each roster, the Bulldog men carried a combined mark of 3.29 to join the elite list of 167 recipients, while the Redlands women impressed with a team GPA of 3.46 to land among the 221 qualifiers.
Individually, Esparza and Ramirez gained this academic accolade by finishing among the top 25% of the NCAA West Regional Championships as strong student-athletes with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.30 or better. Ramirez finished fourth at the regional competition, while Esparza took 20th, with each gaining an All-Region award for their results.
