The No. 31 University of Redlands women's tennis team swept Haverford College (PA), 9-0, in a non-conference dual on Friday afternoon on Verdieck Courts.
Senior Elizabeth Johnson (Portland, OR) and first-year Halle Martinucci (Burlingame, CA) kicked off the match with a dominant 8-0 win at the top of the doubles lineup. The Bulldogs continued to roll, with the No. 2 duo of sophomore Karen Kobayashi (Sappora, Japan) and junior Jackie Lacy (Palm Desert, CA), and the No. 3 tandem of first-year Mia Fitzgerald (Kauai, HI) and senior Kate Dolan (St. Louis, MO) each picking up 8-1 wins for a 3-0 lead.
Matinucci and sophomore Lexi Lehman (Scottsdale, AZ) each won by scores of 6-0, 6-1 to clinch the fourth and fifth points for the Maroon and Gray. At the top of the lineup, Johnson shut out her opponent, 6-0, 6-0, while Kobayashi took down her adversary, 6-2, 6-3. After Fitzgerald won her match, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 2, Lacy closed out the match with a 6-3, 6-4 triumph on the third court.
Redlands (4-4, 1-0 SCIAC) remains at home on Monday, March 18, for a tough matchup against No. 8 Tufts University (MA) at 2 p.m.
