Redlands Men's Water Polo Gains Two Wins on Saturday

The University of Redlands men's water polo team traveled to nearby Pomona-Pitzer Colleges on Saturday to face the Sagehens in an important Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) match. The Bulldogs prevailed in an exciting 10-9 victory and then returned home to the Thompson Aquatic Center to take on non-conference rival Chapman University. With 16 different players scoring, Redlands gained the easy 18-2 win over the Panthers.

Saturday's first game pitted the Bulldogs against the Sagehens of Pomona-Pitzer in an exciting dual match between two of the top conference teams. With strong play and perseverance, Redlands squeaked out the 10-9 win. The Bulldogs gained three goals apiece from senior center Ryan Hall (Bellevue, WA) and junior driver Andrew Becskehazy (Surfside, FL) to lead the charge. Junior driver Erik Grosshans (Oxnard, CA) added two while sophomore center Brendan Meaney (Palm Desert, CA) and senior driver Tony Rona (Mercer Island, WA) rounded out the Bulldog offense. Sophomore Teddy Trowbridge (Mercer Island, WA) patrolled the goal, making eight stops.

The Bulldogs then returned home to host Chapman in a non-conference game, earning the solid 18-2 victory. Sophomore driver Ryan Floersch (San Jose, CA) and freshman driver Tim Hendrickson (Los Altos, CA) supplied two goals each while 14 other players scored for the Bulldogs. Trowbridge earned six saves before sophomore Matt Adams (Vista, CA) took over as goalkeeper, tallying two saves. Finally, sophomore goalkeeper Jack Amaral (Porterville, CA) added to Redlands' last line of defense by making one stop.

Redlands (15-10, 3-0 SCIAC) hosts Cal Lutheran University on Wednesday at 4 p.m. and then welcomes Claremont-Mudd-Scripps to the Thompson Aquatic Center on Saturday at 11 a.m. Immediately following the match against CMS, the annual Alumni Game will take place at approximately 12:30 p.m.
