It was announced on Wednesday that three members of the
University of Redlands men's water polo team earned
All-Western Water Polo Association (WWPA) awards. Senior center
Ryan Hall (shown in photo; Bellevue, WA) landed on the First Team
while junior driver Andrew Becskehazy (Miami, FL) received Second
Team accolades. Rounding out the Bulldogs' honorees,
first-year defender Andrew Smith-Jones (Annapolis, MD) gained a
spot on the All-Freshman Team.
Hall earns his second award of the season after being recognized as
a member of the All-Conference First Team earlier this week.
Furthering the quality of his accomplishments, he is the only
Division III student-athlete on the All-WWPA First Team. This
season, he led the Bulldogs with a stellar 51 goals, ranking him
ninth all-time for a single season at Redlands and pushing him to
third all-time for career goals at 193 so far. He also led the
Bulldog in steals with 51 and tied for the team-lead in ejections
drawn with 28. In addition, he supplied 15 assists and six
blocks.
Becskehazy is one of two Division III competitors to make the
Second Team, joining David Mock from Pomona-Pitzer Colleges. As one
of the team's top offensive threats, he ranked in the top
three for two statistical categories. Offensively, his impressive
30 assists are second-best while his 36 goals place him third among
the Bulldogs. Asserting himself as a potent defensive threat, he
also tallied a third-best 30 steals on defense, to go along with 10
blocks and 16 ejections drawn.
As a rookie, Smith-Jones put together a solid first season,
resulting in WWPA recognition as a member of the All-Freshman Team.
He garnered 10 goals while providing eight assists for the Redlands
offense. Defensively, he held his own by notching 12 steals, three
blocks, and 15 ejections drawn.
Redlands currently holds a 21-12 overall record, including a 12-3
mark in the WWPA. The Bulldogs compete at the WWPA Championships on
November 16-18 at the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs.
On Friday, #6-seed Redlands takes on #3-seed Loyola Marymount
University at 3:30 p.m. MST.
