Senior central defender John Floersch (San Jose, CA) put away
four goals as the University of Redlands men's water polo
team crushed the University of La Verne, 19-8, on Saturday
afternoon in La Verne.
The Bulldogs kicked off their Southern California Intercollegiate
Athletic Conference (SCIAC) slate in grand fashion, defeating the
Leopards by 11 goals. That result serves as Redlands' largest
margin of victory so far this season. Additionally, a total of 11
different players scored in the contest.
A quintet of Bulldogs accounted for 10 of the team's goals as
senior driver Marc Hicks (Granada Hills, CA), senior driver Brent
Dotters (Porterville, CA), senior driver Clint Stevenson (South
Jordan, UT), junior center Blake vanHartesvelt (Mercer Island, WA)
and senior driver Erik Grosshans (Oxnard, CA) each found the back
of the net twice. Senior center Ben Taylor (Porterville, CA),
senior central defender Ian Starkie (Arroyo Grande, CA), senior
center Ryan Floersch (San Jose, CA), freshman driver Patrick Roth
(Salt Lake City, UT) and junior center Miran Terzic (Mostar, Bosna
i Hercegovina) also contributed to the Maroon and Gray's
final tally.
Tending the Redlands net, senior goalkeeper Teddy Trowbridge
(Mercer Island, WA) made five saves. Freshman goalkeeper Jessie
Gunther (Perris, CA) and sophomore goalkeeper Michael Lucey
(Benecia, CA) also saw action in goal for the Bulldogs, posting two
and three stops, respectively.
Redlands (9-14, 1-0 SCIAC) continues on with conference competition
when it hosts Cal Lutheran on Wednesday at the Thompson Aquatic
Center. Game time is scheduled for 5 p.m.
