The University of Redlands men's water polo team split a two-game series on Sunday, defeating the Engineers of MIT after falling to the US Naval Academy.
The Maroon and Gray took down the New England opponent by a score of 12-7 in the second half of Sunday's neutral-site doubleheader. Three different Bulldogs collected a multi-goal performance, headlined by senior driver Danny Boessenecker (Clayton, CA) and junior driver Shane Anderson (Riverside, CA) with three scores apiece.
Redlands' goalkeeper tandem of sophomore Tyler Abbott (Alta Loma, CA) and senior Jessie Gunther (Perris, CA) registered 13 saves in the win.
Against the 15th-ranked Naval Academy, the U of R suffered a 6-12 defeat to the Shipmen. Senior center Blake vanHartesvelt (Mercer Island, WA) led the Bulldogs by posting three netters in the contest.
The Bulldogs (4-8) travel to the UC Davis Aggie Shoot-out this upcoming weekend in Davis, CA. They face Santa Clara in the tournament's first match on Saturday at 8 a.m. and then battle it out with the host school at 12:40 p.m. Sunday's showdown pits Redlands against familiar foe Chapman University at 8 a.m.
