Game Recap: Men's Water Polo |

Redlands Men's Water Polo Beats Cal Lutheran 14-6 on Homecoming

REDLANDS, Calif. – On Homecoming morning at the Thompson Aquatic Center (TAC) the University of Redlands Men's Water Polo team (13-6, 4-1 SCIAC) beat California Lutheran University (CLU) 14-6 thanks to a great first and fourth quarter.

The Bulldogs got off to a 3-0 lead thanks to goals from Andrew Higginson (San Diego, CA), Dean Moody (Camarillo, CA), and Alec Abrahamian (Glendale, CA). Roberto Barrera (Guanajuato, Mexico) got the outlet assist on Moody's goal and Ron Givishi (Kiryat Tivon, Israel) found Abrahamian for the third goal.

A penalty conversion by the Kingsmen made it 3-1 after one, but the Bulldogs scored the first two of the second as Max Wagener (Piedmont, CA) took advantage of a five-meter penalty followed by Higginson who earned his brace to make it 5-1 with 6:16 remaining in the half.

Higginson continued his great scoring form as he netted his hat trick with :49 seconds to play in the half as the Bulldogs took a 6-2 lead into the break.

It was a much better defensive third quarter as neither team scored in the first four plus minutes until Nicolas Fedotov (Miami Beach, FL) was found by Gvishi for the 7-2 lead. The game looked in hand when Brady Bumgardner (Laguna Beach, CA) found Higginson for an 8-2 advantage with less than three to play in the third, but the Kingsmen scored the final two of the quarter as the lead was four through 16 minutes.

Redlands came out strong in the fourth quarter as Higginson and Fedotov made it 10-4 in the first three minutes as UR outscored CLU 6-2 in the final eight minutes. The final four goals came from Higginson, Owen DeCourcy (Alameda, CA) and Gvishi. Gvishi added an assist as did Fedotov along with Spencer Sellwood (Irvine, CA).

Barrera was fantastic again in goal as he made 12 saves, recorded four steals, and had two assists.

Redlands travels to Los Angeles on Wednesday, October 18 as they face off with Occidental College beginning at 7:00 p.m.
