Redlands Men's Water Polo drops non-conference game with Biola University

REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Men's Water Polo team (15-7, 6-1 SCIAC) dropped a non-conference game to Biola University 15-10 at the Thompson Aquatic Center (TAC) Tuesday evening ending their winning streak at three games.

It was a defensive battle early with no goals allowed across the opening four minutes.  Andrew Higginson (San Diego, CA) started the scoring putting UR in front 1-0 at the 4:05 mark as Andrew Sorensen (Long Beach, CA) found him for the opening tally.

The Eagles, though, would score the final three of the first as they held a 3-1 advantage after eight minutes of play.

Nicolas Fedotov (Miami Beach, FL) made it a one-goal game in the first two minutes of the second quarter as Dean Moody (Camarillo, CA) picked up the assist. The Bulldogs would then allow the Eagles to score five unanswered as they trailed by six, 8-2, with less than two minutes left in the half. Owen DeCourcy (Alameda, CA) stopped the run by scoring twice with assists from Moody and Austin Galanski (Bakersfield, CA) as Redlands trailed by four, 8-4, at the break.

Alec Abrahamian (Glendale, CA) made it three-for-three in scoring first to start the third quarter as his goal with 5:45 on the clock in the third got the Bulldogs within three. Biola would respond with a 3-0 surge to extend the lead back to six with 3:12 on the clock.

DeCourcy got his hat trick and Curren McCarthy (San Clemente, CA) scored to end the third quarter as Redlands had momentum heading into the fourth. Owen Nishimura (Carlsbad, CA) and Moody picked up assists.

Goals from DeCourcy, Moody, and Nishimura kept the game close in the fourth, but Biola would find a way to stay out in front as they would pick up the road win.  During the scoring run Ron Gvishi (Kiryat Tivon, Israel) and Adam Lambert (St. Louis, MO) each had assists.

Filling in between the posts for Roberto Barrera (Guanajuato, Mexico) who was selected to play for the Mexican National Team at the Pan-American Games was Troy Barker (Roseville, CA) who had a pair of steals and eight saves.

The Bulldogs return to Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) action Wednesday night, October 25 as they travel to Whittier College for a 7:00 p.m. game.
