REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Men's Water Polo team split a doubleheader at the Thompson Aquatic Center (TAC) as they beat the University of La Verne 19-10 in Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) action before dropping their game with No. 17 California Baptist University (CBU) 16-10 Saturday.
Game 1: University of La Verne; W, 19-10
It was a back-and-forth start to the game as each team scored twice in the opening three minutes as
Nicolas Fedotov (Miami Beach, FL) and
Owen Nishimura (Carlsbad, CA) each had goals and
Ron Gvishi (Kiryat Tivon, Israel) and Fedotov each had assists.
With the game tied at two, the Bulldogs ended the quarter on a 4-1 run as they held a 6-3 lead after the first eight minutes.
Andrew Higginson (San Diego, CA),
Dean Moody (Camarillo, CA), and
Max Wagener (Piedmont, CA) all found the back of the net twice.
In the second quarter Redlands extended their run to 7-2 as
Spencer Sellwood (Irvine, CA) setup Gvishi for the seventh goal and
Spencer Clinton (Cypress, CA) and Moody had goals eight and nine.
The Leopards, though, ended the half with a pair of goals in the final :90 seconds as the lead at half was cut to three, 9-6.
A 4-0 run to open the first three plus minutes of the third quarter put the game away as Redlands led 13-6. Moody added a pair of tallies while Sellwood also scored, and Nishimura added an assist.

Alec Abrahamian (Glendale, CA) tacked on two more for the Maroon and Grey, while
Owen DeCourcy scored his first as the Bulldogs got the 19-10 win and improved to 8-1 inside conference play.
In goal
Troy Barker (Roseville, CA) made five saves and had a steal. Moody had five goals, Wagener had a hat trick, and Abrahamian, Sellwood, and Clinton each added braces.
Game 2: Cal Baptist University; L, 16-10)
In game two of the day and four in the last four days, the Bulldogs were tied at one with the Lancers with 4:43 to play in the first as Abrahaman had the opening score.
After Clinton scored with :12 seconds remaining in the first, the Bulldogs went into the second quarter down 5-2.
Sellwood added a pair of goals in the second as Redlands found themselves down 11-4 at the break. Higginson and Fedotov each assisted on the two goals.
Trailing by nine, 13-4, with 2:50 to play in the third, Gvishi scored, which started a 6-3 run over the final 10:50 as the Bulldogs closed on a high note. The other five goals during that run included two from Clinton and one from Higginson, Moody, and Fedotov.
Redlands will return to SCIAC play next Saturday, November 4 at 11:00 a.m. as they travel to Pomona-Pitzer following a week break.
