Complete performance sees Redlands Men's Water Polo handle La Verne at home

REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Men's Water Polo team (11-11, 7-1 SCIAC) got back in the win column as they defeated the University of La Verne 16-9 at the Thompson Aquatic Center (TAC) Wednesday evening.

It was all Bulldogs from the opening minute goal from Ron Gvishi (Kiryat Tivon, Israel) to the Max Wagener (Piedmont, CA) connection that made it 6-0 with 5:38 to play in the second quarter.

The four goals sandwiched in-between came from Gvishi for a second time, Spencer Clinton (Cypress, CA) twice, and Andrew Sorensen (Long Beach, CA). Roberto Barrera (Guanajuato, Mexico) had two outlet assists, Owen Nishimura (Carlsbad, CA) set up Sorensen, and Adam Lambert (St. Louis, MO) fed Clinton.

At the break it was 8-2 after Wagener and Gvishi, assisted by Dean Moody (Camarillo, CA), found the back of the net in the final 1:10.

Redlands scored the opening three goals of the third quarter on a powerplay, a five-meter penalty, and an even strength possession to make it 11-2. Brody Nielsen (Capitola, CA) had an assist on the 11th goal.

Down the stretch in the fourth Moody, Clinton, Harrison DeCourcy (Alameda, CA), Thomas Byrne (Boulder, CO), and Austin Galanski (Bakersfield, CA) all scored with Liam Gore (Glendora, CA) and Aidan Murphy (Placentia, CA) finding their way onto the scoresheet with assists.

Clinton led the offense with four goals and added two drawn exclusions. Gvishi and Wagener each had hat tricks. Sorensen had two goals and two drawn exclusions.

Additionally for Gvishi, he now moves into 10th in program history with 95 career assists.

In goal Barerra played the first 24 minutes, making six saves on 10 shot attempts faced, and added two assists. With the two assists he moves into seventh place in program history with 13 career assists as a goalkeeper. He is now two back of Greg Haynes currently in sixth. He is also tied for ninth with 48 career goalkeeper steals.

Redlands will now prepare for another match-up with Claremont-Mudd-Scripps this Saturday, November 2 at 11:00 a.m. inside the TAC.  The Bulldogs and Stags faced off this past Saturday with CMS winning 9-8 in OT.
