REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Men's Tennis team took down another nationally-ranked opponent Friday night beating No. 43 UC Santa Cruz 4-0 inside the Verdieck Tennis Center.
The Bulldogs improve to 8-5, 1-1 SCIAC and have extended their winning streak to three matches.
The match was played to decision under Division I rules. Redlands took two of three doubles to go in front 1-0 before grabbing three singles points.
Dominic Anderson (Brisbane, Australia) and
Gustavo Marcanth (Redondo Beach, CA) won their match 6-3 at No. 3 and was followed by
Nico Calixto (Cathedral City, CA) and
Yoav Nir (Tel Aviv, Israel) at No. 1 who would use a break to grab the edge 6-4. The lone win by the Banana Slugs came at No. 2 as
MJ Abarca (Chula Vista, CA) and
Jack Fanshawe (Brisbane, Australia) would fall 6-3.
Calixto rolled at the top spot bageling his opponent 6-0, 6-0 moving the score to 2-0 and Anderson who moved into the No. 2 slot for the first time added a 6-4, 6-1 win pushing the lead to 3-0.
The clinch came at No. 6 from
Jax Ledwith (West Linn, OR) who used a break in each set to win 6-4, 6-3 handing the Maroon and Grey the victory.
Other matches that were unfinished included Nir at No. 3 who was up 6-3, 5-3, Marcanth at No. 4 who was up 6-4, 4-5, and
Josh Davydov (Bellevue, WA) at No. 5 who was up 6-4, 4-3.
Redlands returns to the courts next week on Tuesday, April 2 when they travel to Whittier College to take on the Poets beginning at 4:00pm.
