SCIAC Athletes of the Week
LAGUNA NIGUEL, Calif. – The Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced their SCIAC Athletes of the Week with the University of Redlands having three selections including
Zachary Darmanyan (San Diego, CA), Adrian Silva (Bell Gardens, CA), and
Stian Asper (St. Paul, MN).
Zachary Darmanyan (Men's Soccer – Offensive Athlete of the Week)
Darmanyan accounted for four of five University of Redlands goals in victories over conference-leading Whittier College and Chapman University, which is tied for second place in the standings. The junior registered a hat trick in the 3-1 win at Whittier after assisting the game-winning goal against the Panthers.
Adrian Silva (Football – Defensive Athlete of the Week)
Silva and the University of Redlands defense held Pomona-Pitzer to just 179 yards of total offense, including -23 yards rushing in a narrow 16-14 victory. The junior linebacker recorded seven tackles with two for a loss, one of which was a sack for a six-yard loss.
Stian Asper (Men's Cross-Country – Men's Runner of the Week)
Asper broke the University of Redlands program 8k record with a time of 24:17.4 at the UC Riverside Highlander Invitational this past Saturday. He broke the school record by 2.8 seconds, which was set by Tucker Cargile in 2021 when he set the record at the NCAA Division III National Championships. The 25
th-place individual performance helped the Bulldogs to a team finish of 15
th in the multi-divisional race.
The University of Redlands Men's Soccer team returns to the pitch on Wednesday, October 22 when they host Caltech beginning at 7:00pm. Football returns to the gridiron on Saturday, October 25 when they travel up to Thousand Oaks, CA to take on California Lutheran University beginning at 7:00pm. Cross-Country has the weekend off but will return to competition on November 1 when they compete in the SCIAC Championships.
