U of R Swim & Dive hosts annual Bulldog Pentathlon

REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Swimming & Diving team hosted the 2025 Bulldog Pentathlon this past Saturday with several swimmers posting strong performances across five events at the Bulldog Aquatic Center.
The pentathlon format tested the swimmers' versatility, requiring them to compete in the 100 Butterfly, 100 Backstroke, 100 Breaststroke, 100 Freestyle, and 100 IM over the course of the meet. The event served as an important early-season test for the Bulldogs as they continue their campaign through the fall season.

Women's Competition
The Redlands women showed depth and determination throughout the day's competition, finishing second overall with 107.5 points.

Standout Performances:
Kileigh Ackerman (Evergreen, CO) led the Bulldogs with multiple Top-5 finishes, highlighted by her fifth-place finish in the 100 Backstroke with a time of 1:02.37. Ackerman demonstrated her versatility with consistent performances across all five events.

Avery Wells (Seattle, WA) earned a Top-10 finish in the 100 Freestyle (56.37), showcasing her speed in the sprint event. Wells also secured seventh place in the 100 IM (1:04.08) and added valuable points in the backstroke and breaststroke events.
Clare Carroll (Jamestown, RI) proved to be a reliable scorer for the Bulldogs, posting a 10th-Place finish in the 100 Backstroke (1:04.11) and consistently placing in the top half of the field across multiple events.

Other notable contributors included Lina Matera (Hingham, MA), who finished fifth in the 100 IM (1:03.73) and added points in the backstroke and breaststroke, and Ana-Adela Duran (Albuquerque, N.M.), who placed sixth in the 100 Backstroke (1:03.26).
Athena Fitzgerald (Rancho Palos Verdes, CA) showed versatility with an eighth-place finish in the 100 Breaststroke (1:11.49), while Ella Suazo (Littleton, CO) demonstrated consistency across multiple strokes throughout the Pentathlon.

Men's Competition
The Redlands men finished fourth with 92 points, led by strong individual performances from their top swimmers.

Top Performers:
Senior Ethan Chir (Las Vegas, NV) delivered the Bulldogs' most impressive showing of the day, earning victories in two events. Chir touched first in the 100 Breaststroke with a winning time of 1:00.13 and followed that up with a runner-up finish in the 100 IM (53.82). He also added a third-place finish in the 100 Butterfly (53.09) and placed fifth in the 100 Backstroke (55.08), demonstrating exceptional range across all strokes.
Flynn Bayne (Seattle, WA) proved to be a valuable addition to the team, placing fourth in the 100 Backstroke (54.21) and contributing solid performances in the Butterfly and IM events.
Landynn Olivas (El Centro, CA) showed consistency throughout the competition, placing in the Top-20 in multiple events, while David Basa (Hoffman, Ill.) added depth with his 15th-place finish in the 100 Freestyle (50.49).

Additional scoring came from Connor O'Sullivan (West Hollywood, CA), Sutton Cheves (Albuquerque, N.M.), Finn Mutuc (Boulder, CO), and Jay Deng (Seattle, WA), all of whom competed across the demanding five-event format.

Redlands returns to the pool on Sunday, October 19 when they host their annual Alumni Meet beginning at 11:30am.  They return to competition to open up SCIAC hosting the University of La Verne on Friday, November 7 beginning at 1:30pm.
