CLAREMONT, Calif. – The University of Redlands Women's Lacrosse team (12-6) dropped their Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Tournament Semi-Final game, 22-6, at No. 2 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CMS) Wednesday evening as Head Coach Suzette Soboti coached her final game with the program.
The Bulldogs trailed 5-0 with less than five minutes to play in the first quarter when Ruby Czajkowski (West Hartford, CT) and Emily Webster (Ladera Ranch, CA) went back-to-back in :38 seconds to cut the deficit to three, 5-2.
The Athenas, though, scored the next seven goals to establish their largest lead of the game at 10, 12-2. Three of the next five goals, however, came for Redlands after Gwen Guico (Camano Island, WA) scored at the 7:44 mark of the second. Catie Ramicone (Countryside, Ill.) then found April Bryant (Danville, A) three minutes later before Bryant scored her second of the game in the opening two minutes of the third period.
The final scoring play for the U of R came at the five-minute mark of the fourth quarter when Ramicone was a part of her second goal when she fed Webster for her brace.
After being named 2nd Team All-SCIAC and the SCIAC Newcomer of the Year, Bryant finished with team-highs of three points, four ground balls, three caused turnovers, and three draw controls. All-SCIAC 1st-Teamer Jenny Quinonez Diaz (Menlo Park, CA) caused two turnovers and collected two ground balls. Fellow 2nd Team selections Webster and Czajkowski had three combined goals. In goal Courtney Myers (Gig Harbor, WA) made 10 saves, her fifth double-digit save game on the season.
This season Czajkowski recorded 67 points, the 10th most in single-season history. Bryant finished with 111 draw controls, second-most to her assistant coach Lacey Douglass who retains the record of 124 set in 2018. Myers made 122 saves, which is ninth-most.
This season the Bulldogs had numerous new team records, including one Top-10 single-game goals record, two Top-10 largest margin of victory games, four Top-25 single-game assists records, including the new program record of 14 vs Whittier College. They scored the sixth-most goals in a season (233), had the second-most assists (119), fourth-most points (352), fourth-longest winning streak (6), and the fifth-most wins (12).
In the career ranks Webster moved into eighth place with 183 points, fourth in points per game at 3.59, and seventh in goals scored (157). Czajkowski is sixth in points per game at 3.34 and Cailin Walker (Portland, OR) is now fifth in assists with 60.
Soboti navigated the Bulldogs to the SCIAC Tournament for the first time since 2017 with a roster including only one senior. Her 12 wins are the most since winning 14 in 2014. Her eight SCIAC wins are also the most since 2014. She ends her tenure with a 230-190 overall record, a 215-176 varsity record, and an 81-79 SCIAC record. She led Redlands to the NCAA Tournament four times, won three SCIAC Championship titles, and three SCIAC Tournament titles.
