REDLANDS, Calif. - The University of Redlands proudly announces the 2025 class of Bulldog Bench Intercollegiate Athletics Hall of Fame inductees, representing excellence across multiple decades and sports. This distinguished group includes six former student-athletes, one coach/administrator, and one championship team, and represents eight different sports, showcasing the remarkable depth and tradition of Redlands athletics. Their combined achievements span from the 1960s through the 2020s, demonstrating the sustained excellence that defines Bulldog athletics. The 2025 Hall of Fame class embodies the values of academic excellence, athletic achievement, and community service that embody the University of Redlands experience, ensuring their legacies will inspire future generations of Bulldogs.
This class will be celebrated during Homecoming at the Hall of Fame Dinner and Induction Ceremony on Friday, October 17, 2025. Additional information for registration will be forthcoming.
Individual Inductees
Jeff Martinez enters the Hall of Fame for his special contributions to the University of Redlands during his 42-year career, which included time as the head athletic trainer, head women's golf coach, and director of athletics. During the last 25-plus years, Martinez shaped the modern era of Bulldog athletics by providing leadership and vision for the department as its director. His dedication to student-athlete success and overall excellence has left an indelible mark on the University of Redlands, the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC), and NCAA Division III.
Ali Smith '17 dominated women's track and field as a four-time SCIAC 100m hurdles champion from 2014-2017. As the 2017 NCAA National Champion in her event, Smith also earned multiple All-American honors on her way to being named the 2016-17 Frank Serrao Senior Female Scholar Athlete of the Year. Her record-setting performances in the heptathlon (4,799 points) and 60m hurdles (8.71 seconds) continue to set the standard of excellence for Bulldog track and field.
As the program's leading goal-scorer with 63 goals in his career,
Ross Schunk '09 made his mark in men's soccer during his time at Redlands. As a two-time All-American, he also represented the Bulldogs on the All-SCIAC teams on three occasions, including twice as the SCIAC Athlete of the Year. He went on to be the 47
th pick in the 2009 MLS Superdraft and played for the Colorado Rapids.
Weldon Diggs '65 represents the proud tradition of Redlands swimming from the 1960s. Among his accolades, Diggs finished second in the 200 butterfly (2:08.5) and third in the 1650 free (18:53.5) at the 1965 NAIA National Championships. He will be inducted posthumously.
While scoring 1,437 points and blocking 128 shots,
Courtney Carroll (Bertolacci) '12 was a dominant force in women's basketball, earning First Team All-SCIAC honors three times (2009, 2010, 2012) and Second Team recognition in 2011. The 2009 D3hoops.com West Region Rookie of the Year also achieved All-America Third Team status in her sophomore season. Her outstanding career culminated in being named the Frank Serrao Senior Female Athlete of the Year in 2012.
Trevor Young '06 led the men's golf program to unprecedented heights as team captain from 2003-2006. A four-time All-American, Young helped guide the Bulldogs to three SCIAC championships (2003, 2005, 2006) and four consecutive NCAA tournament appearances, including three runner-up finishes. His First Team All-SCIAC selections in 2003, 2004, and 2005 also highlighted his individual excellence as an integral member of the men's golf team.
Tristan Kirk '13 was a standout guard for men's basketball, earning First Team All-SCIAC honors in 2011 and 2013, plus Second Team recognition in 2012. Kirk played a crucial role in leading the Bulldogs to SCIAC Regular-Season and Conference Tournament championships in 2011 and again in 2013. His exceptional career was capped off by being named the 2012-13 Frank Serrao Senior Male Athlete of the Year.

The
2011 Men's Track & Field Team achieved remarkable success that season, representing the pinnacle of Bulldog excellence with an undefeated run in SCIAC dual meets. The Bulldogs also captured the SCIAC Championship by dethroning longtime champion Claremont-Mudd-Scripps after their 19-year reign. Mike Schmidt, Redlands tied for 14th at the 2011 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, with All-Americans Ross Blanchard and Andy Green, and All-American Relay Team Blanchard, Seth Drake, Green, and Ryan Shorey leading the charge.
