REDLANDS, CA – The University of Redlands swimming and diving teams competed in a spirited tri-meet against California Lutheran University and Caltech over the weekend showcasing strong performances across multiple events.
Men's Team Highlights
The Bulldog men opened the meet with a solid third-place finish in the 200 Medley Relay, with the A team of
Flynn Bayne (Seattle, WA),
Tim Jensen (Elmhurst, Ill.),
Ethan Chir (Henderson, NV), and
Kadyn Butcher (Vancouver, WA) posting a time of 1:39.06.
Joey Madigan (Arlington, VA) turned in an impressive performance in the 1000 Freestyle, touching second overall in 10:08.36, staying competitive throughout the grueling 40-length race. Madigan also claimed third in the 500 Free (5:01.02) and ninth in the 50 Free (23.84), demonstrating his versatility.
Jensen had a strong meet in the sprint events, taking third in both the 50 Free (22.15) and 100 Free (49.86). Butcher contributed with a sixth-place finish in the 50 Free (22.90).
Chir led the Bulldogs in the breaststroke events, claiming third in the 100 Breast (1:00.42) and fourth in the 200 Breast (2:14.79). The senior also captured the meet's top finish for Redlands with a victory in the 200 IM, clocking in at 1:59.18.
Bayne competed across multiple events, placing sixth in the 100 Back (56.72), fifth in the 200 Back (2:08.75), and ninth in the 100 Fly (57.38).
In the distance events,
Will Coziahr (Chula Vista, CA) finished fifth in the 1000 Free (11:36.67) and seventh in the 500 Free (5:29.20).
Landynn Olivas (El Centro, CA) contributed with a fifth-place showing in the 200 Fly (2:09.53) and eighth in the 100 Fly (56.70).
The men's A relay team finished fourth in the 400 Free Relay (3:23.01) with Jensen, Butcher,
David Basa (Hoffman, Ill.), and
Noah Tikoo (Oviedo, FL) combining for a solid effort.
Women's Team Highlights
Clare Carroll (Jamestown, RI) led the women's sprint efforts with a third-place finish in the 50 Free (26.12) and sixth in the 100 Free (58.67).
Brooklyn Green added depth to the sprint group with fourth place finishes in the 50 Free (26.45) and 100 Free (57.83).
In the distance events,
Ava Marie Vearrier (Eugene, OR) placed fifth in the 1000 Free (12:20.35) and sixth in the 500 Free (5:58.52), while
Mackenzie Neese (Folson, CA) took sixth in the 1000 Free (12:43.91) and eighth in the 500 Free (6:08.12).
Kileigh Ackerman (Evergreen, CO) posted strong results in backstroke events, taking fifth in the 100 Back (1:05.33) and second in the 200 Back (2:15.91).
Ana-Adela Duran (Albuquerque, N.M. ) and
Camryn Qsar (Bakersfield, CA) also contributed with seventh and eighth-place finishes respectively in the 100 Back.
Lina Matera (Hingham, MA) tied for third in the 100 Breast with a time of 1:14.65, while
Athena Fitzgerald (Rancho Palos Verdes, CA) finished sixth in the same event (1:16.14). Both swimmers also competed well in the 200 Breast, with Fitzgerald taking third (2:42.62) and Matera fifth (2:47.02).
Ackerman showed her versatility with a sixth-place finish in the 100 Fly (1:08.04). In the 200 IM, Matera placed third (2:22.52), while
Rylie Kohl (Eastvale, CA) took seventh (2:35.97).
On the boards, the Bulldogs made their mark with
Ayanna Leal (Las Cruces, NM) and
Sydney Kerns (West Covina, CA) representing Redlands. Leal finished fourth on the 1-meter (185.20) and fifth on the3-meter (193.60), while Kerns placed fifth on the 1-meter (180.35) and fourth on the 3-meter (203.90).
The women's A relay of Carroll,
Kaile Itow (Morgan Hill, CA),
Ella Suazo (Littleton, CO), and Green touched fourth in the 400 Free Relay with a time of 3:51.58.
Redlands returns to the Thompson Aquatic Center this Saturday, January 17 when they host Pomona-Pitzer on Senior Day beginning at 10:00am.
