Redlands Swimmers Dominate Dual Meet Against Willamette

REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Swimming and Diving teams delivered commanding performances on both sides in Saturday's dual meet against Willamette University, with the men winning 156-104 and the women claiming a dominant 205-57 victory.

Men's Team Highlights
The Bulldogs kicked off the meet with authority as their A relay team of Flynn Bayne (Seattle, WA), Noah Tikoo (Ovuedo, FL), Ethan Chir (Las Vegas, NV), and Kadyn Butcher (Vancouver, WA) touched first in the 200 Medley Relay with a time of 1:40.79.

Joseph Madigan (Arlington, VA) starred in the distance events, capturing first place in both the 1000 Freestyle (10:20.18) and the 500 Freestyle (5:00.80). Madigan's versatility was on full display as he also finished third in the 50 Freestyle (23.70).

Tikoo showcased his range with a first-place finish in the 200 Freestyle (1:51.81) and a fourth-place showing in the 100 Breaststroke (1:04.39).  David Basa (Hoffman, Ill.) contributed valuable points with a runner-up finish in the 200 Free (1:53.73), a victory in the 100 Free (50.83), and a second-place finish in the 50 Butterfly (25.79).

Landynn Olivas (El Centro, CA) swept the butterfly events, winning the 100 Fly (56.43), the 50 Fly (25.41), while also placing fifth in the 500 Free (5:29.17).

In the backstroke events, Bayne dominated with victories in both the 50 Back (26.62) and 100 Back (57.53). The breaststroke squad was led by Chir, who placed second in both the 50 Breast (27.63) and 100 Breast (1:00.98), while also taking second in the 100 IM (54.19).

Butcher contributed points across multiple events with a second-place finish in the 50 Free (22.75) and third in the 100 Free (51.60). The Bulldogs capped the meet off with a second-place finish in the 200 Free Relay (1:33.55).

Women's Team Highlights
The Redlands women were nearly unstoppable, sweeping or placing highly in almost every event. Their A relay team of Kileigh Ackerman (Evergreen, CO), Athena Fitzgerald (Rancho Palos Verdes, CA), Lina Matera (Hingham, MA), and Avery Wells (Seattle, WA) opened with a commanding victory in the 200 Medley Relay (1:56.88).

Ava Marie Vearrier (Eugene, OR) impressed in the distance events, winning both the 1000 Freestyle (12:07.69) and the 500 Freestyle (5:54.19), establishing herself as a force in distance swimming.

Matera proved to be one of the meet's standout performers, claiming victories in the 100 Butterfly (1:04.22), 100 Backstroke (1:02.90), and 100 IM (1:03.21). Her three individual wins were crucial to Redlands' commanding team score.

Wells demonstrated her sprinting prowess with first-place finishes in both the 50 Freestyle (26.01) and 100 Freestyle (57.32).  Brooklyn Green (Cary, NC) added depth to the sprint group with a second place finish in the 50 Free (26.29) and third place finish in the 100 Free (1:00.02).  Fitzgerald swept the breaststroke events with victories in the 50 Breast (33.91) and 100 Breast (1:13.96), while also winning the 50 Butterfly (30.20).  Camryn Qsar (Bakersfield, CA) complemented Fitzgerald's efforts with runner-up finishes in both breaststroke events.

Kaile Itow (Morgan Hill, CA) won the 200 Free (2:06.56) and placed second in the 100 Free (58.38).  Ackerman rounded out the stellar performances with a first-place finish in the 50 Back (29.89) and second in the 100 Back (1:03.17).
Diana Lopez (San Fernando Valley, CA) claimed second place in both butterfly events (100 Fly: 1:08.69, 50 Fly: 30.22), while the depth of the Redlands squad was evident throughout the lineup.

The A relay team of Green, Itow, Ella Suazo (Littleton, CO), and Wells dominated the 200 Free Relay, winning in a time of 1:47.15.

Redlands moves back into conference action next Saturday, January 10 when they travel to Thousand Oaks, CA for a tri-meet with California Lutheran University and Caltech beginning at 10:30am.
