REDLANDS, Calif. - This past Wednesday the Overwatch JV team took to the stage starting their new season off with a tough match-up against Neumont College.
It proved to be a battle for the Bulldogs but they would come out on top 3-2. With only one game left to make a comeback tensions were high.
Luckily for the team,
David Mundo who recently took on the role of managing and coaching the team provided a much needed experience boost in morale. He took the team from upset and ready to lose, back to the high, excited energy they had started with during round one. This led the team to take the game back and ended with a score of 3-2, giving the team their first win of the season.
One of the things you can observe watching these teams as they get back into the game is how they find flow with each other again after a break. While the teams spend hours practicing, nothing is quite the same as being on the stage and Wednesdays' close game was a demonstration of how difficult but rewarding it can be to get back into a season of playing. But with such an exciting comeback, the team shared how excited they are to continue playing.
"It was really rough in the beginning, but I think once we swapped things up, kind of to what we were more used too or could do that helped," Ian Durham shared. "But the difficulty of how we picked up the win made it so worth it."
"It's a new type of success not of 'I won' but more of 'we won," Mundo explained but it encapsulated the evening.
The team returns to competition next Wednesday, February 18 at 5:30pm. Come out to watch your Bulldogs compete in the Esports arena or tune into Twitch to watch the action live.
