Bulldogs Capture Overall Victory in Tri-Meet Showdown with Whittier and Occidental

REDLANDS, Calif. - The University of Redlands swim and dive teams delivered commanding performances on Saturday, sweeping both dual meets in a tri-meet competition against Occidental College and Whittier College. The Bulldogs dominated their matchup with Occidental 340-228 while edging Whittier 299-271 in a closer contest.

The Redlands men defeated Occidental 176-104 while falling to Whittier 141-130. The women's squad proved dominant, defeating Whittier 169-130 and tying Occidental 164-124 in their dual scoring format.

Relay Excellence Sets the Tone
The Bulldogs opened the meet with authority, claiming victory in the men's 200 medley relay with a time of 1:36.18. The A-team of Flynn Bayne (Seattle, WA)Tim Jensen (Elmhurst, Ill.)Ethan Chir (Henderson, NV), and Kadyn Butcher (Vancouver, WA) combined to touch the wall first and set an early tone for the competition.

Redlands continued their relay success throughout the meet. In the men's 200 freestyle relay, the team of Butcher, Joey Madigan (Arlington, VA), Bayne, and Jensen clocked 1:27.63 for second place. On the women's side, the A-relay of Clare Carroll (Jamestown, R.I.)Kaile Itow (Morgan Hill, CA)Brooklyn Green (Fontana, CA), and Avery Wells (Seattle, WA) posted a winning time of 1:40.86 in the 200 freestyle relay.

Individual Champions
Chir was unstoppable in backstroke and breaststroke events. The senior claimed victory in the 100 backstroke (52.41), 200 breaststroke (2:06.42), and 200 IM (1:54.55), while also anchoring the winning medley relay.

Jensen captured first place in the men's 100 breaststroke with a time of 58.94 and added a runner-up finish in the 100 freestyle (48.11), proving his versatility across multiple events.

Carroll led the women's sprint efforts, taking the 50 freestyle (25.19) and 100 freestyle (55.01) to secure double individual victories.
Conor Wherry (Denver, CO) dominated the men's diving competition, winning the 1-meter springboard with a score of 314.55.

Distance Dominance
The Bulldogs showed depth in distance events with solid performances across the board. Madigan earned second place in both the 200 freestyle (1:46.06) and 500 freestyle (4:49.49). In the grueling 1000 freestyle, Will Coziahr (Chula Vista, CA) and Cole Robinson (Phoenix, AZ) placed fourth and fifth respectively with times of 10:57.72 and 10:58.28.

On the women's side, Ava Marie Vearrier (Eugene, OR) secured third in the 1000 freestyle (12:17.65) and added a third-place finish in the 500 freestyle (5:48.81).

Backstroke Brigade
The Bulldogs' backstroke squad delivered impressive results throughout the meet. Flynn Bayne captured second in the 100 backstroke (54.00) and 200 backstroke (2:00.16). Kileigh Ackerman (Evergreen, CO) led the women's backstroke contingent with victories in both the 100 (1:01.60) and 200 (2:11.22), while teammate Lina Matera (Hingham, MA) placed second in both events.

Diving Depth
The Bulldogs' diving squads showed their strength on both the 1-meter and 3-meter boards.  Wherry's victory on the 1-meter led a strong men's showing. The women divers contributed valuable points as Sydney Kerns (West Covina, CA) and Ayanna Leal (Las Cruces, N.M.) both placed in the top four on both boards, with Kerns earning third on 3-meter (250.25) and 1-meter (230.05).

Sprint and Middle Distance Success
Green proved her sprint prowess with a second-place finish in the women's 50 freestyle (25.69) and 100 freestyle (55.58).  Wells added depth in the 200 freestyle with a runner-up performance (2:03.48) and fourth in the 100 freestyle (56.48).

In the butterfly events, Robinson secured third in the 200 butterfly (2:01.56) and 100 butterfly (55.31), while Olivas placed fourth in the 200 fly (2:06.07).

Breaststroke and IM Contributions
Noah Tikoo (Oviedo, FL) added valuable points with a third-place finish in the 100 breaststroke (1:00.17) and second in the 200 breaststroke (2:12.38). In the women's IM, Lina Matera claimed victory with a time of 2:17.08, while Rylie Kohl (Eastvale, CA) finished fifth (2:24.72).
Redlands has a week off from competition before competing in the SCIAC Championships, February 18-21 in Monterey Park, CA (ELAC).
