REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands women's lacrosse team (7-3, 3-2) dropped their Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) game to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CMS), 25-3, Saturday afternoon at Farquhar Field.
The morning got off to a great start as Lizzy Weaver caused a turnover, shortly after the opening draw control, and then picked up the ground ball before April Bryant found Mallory Morrissey for her ninth goal of the season.
That goal, however, would be the last for the Bulldogs until the 2:16 mark of the second quarter when Nicole Sanders scored an unassisted goal after Jenna Bradford forced a turnover and Cailin Walker picked up the ground ball which led Sanders into a one-on-one with the Athena goalkeeper.
Two minutes later with only 18 seconds remaining in the opening half, Redlands got a free position attempt and Gwenyth Guico scored, her 11th of the season, which made it an 11-3 halftime deficit.
Guico's goal would be the last for the Bulldogs as the Athenas scored 14 unanswered goals in the second half.
The Bulldogs were behind the eight ball as the nations leader in draw controls won, by a wide margin too, helped CMS to a 28-1 advantage in that category which led to a 39-10 advantage in shots.
Courtney Myers made four saves and had six ground balls in goal. Malia Tauanuu also made two stops in just under 19 minutes of action.
Ruby Czajkowski added three ground balls, as did Weaver who recorded three caused turnovers.
Emily Webster's 28-game scoring steak comes to an end as she was held to only two shot attempts. Her 28 games will finish as the second-longest streak in program history behind the nearly impossible to catch 63 games by Hanna Morford (2016-19).
Redlands heads to Chapman University next Saturday, April 4 for a game in Orange at 11 a.m.
