Marielle Gomez -- TFFRS Career History

Quick Facts

  • Postgraduate Plans: I'm not sure what I'll be doing but I would be happiest doing one of the following things: Finding a field study biology job so I can work and study the earth in the field, working on a farm in another country, becoming a park ranger for a few years, volunteering at conservation projects around the world, continuing to pursue running and my hobbies in art and photography, and traveling at any moment that I can.
  • Favorite Professional Athlete: Billy Mills, Steve Prefontaine, Allyson Felix, Donald Scott, Frank Shorter, and Nell Rojas.
  • Favorite Music Artist: I love music! Some of my favorite artists are: Mac Miller, Fleetwood Mac, Michael Jackson, Tyler the Creator, Kendrick Lamar, Bon Iver, The Lumineers, Paramore, The 1975, SZA
  • Favorite Food: Pasta, Sushi, or a nice Pueblo Feast-Day cookie.
  • Favorite Inspirational Quote/Song: "To give anything less than your best is to sacrifice the gift" - Steve Prefontaine, my favorite song is Ladders by Mac Miller, or Good Days by SZA
  • Why I Became a Bulldog Student-Athlete: I love running. I've been doing it since as long as I can remember. Both of my parents were athletes in college, and afterward. My dad has been the Cross-Country coach for Taos High School for nearly 40 years, so I’ve been surrounded by athletics my whole life. When I applied to college, I wasn't sure if I'd have the chance to run on a collegiate team because my times aren’t what most coaches look for. But Coach Schmidt reached out to me and recruited me. I think the fact that Coach Schmidt didn’t just look at my times, but also saw my potential, says a lot about his character and values as a coach. I’m very excited to run in college and become even better. My younger self would be very proud of me, especially because since I’m Native American, it is an honor to be going to college and run on the team. I hope that I can be an inspiration to my people and show them that they should never give up on their dreams.
