Redlands Men's Soccer Earns 1-0 Win over Cal Lutheran

Amidst the excitement of Senior Night, the University of Redlands men’s soccer team moved into sole possession of first place in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) standings tonight by defeating visiting Cal Lutheran University, 1-0.

In front of more than 600 Bulldog faithful, junior forward Ross Schunk (Portland, OR) scored his seventh game-winner of the season at 34:53. Sophomore midfielder Eli Bowman (Pa’auilo, HI) crossed the ball into the edge of the box and found sophomore forward Nick Gundersen (Park City, UT), who one-touched the ball to Schunk. After making a quick move past a Cal Lu defender, he chipped it over the oncoming goalkeeper for the score.

Both teams tallied 17 shots, including a total of 18 on target. Senior goalkeeper Andy Roraff (Highland, CA) made seven saves for the Bulldogs while senior Chris Thompson (Simi Valley, CA) came up with 10 for the Kingsmen.

The Bulldogs (14-2, 11-1 SCIAC) take to the road next week with games at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges and Pomona-Pitzer Colleges. Redlands faces CMS on Wednesday at 7 p.m. and then squares off against the Sagehens on Saturday at 11 a.m.
