Bulldog Men's Soccer Gains Solid Victory over Pomona-Pitzer

The University of Redlands men’s soccer team added another victory to its 2007 season with a convincing 3-1 win over visiting Pomona-Pitzer Colleges. This gives the Bulldogs a 6-1 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) record to keep them tied with Cal Lutheran University at the top of the standings.

Redlands opened the scoring in the 18th minute when junior forward Ross Schunk (Portland, OR) added to his team-high season total by connecting on a beautiful cross from sophomore defender Jeff Willey (Medina, WA). The Sagehens responded in the 33rd minute when sophomore midfielder Harry Hansen (Bowdoinham, ME) put away junior defender Kyle Hill’s (Gahanna, OH) rebounded shot. The score remained knotted at one apiece when the first half expired.

However, inspiring halftime words from Bulldogs’ Head Coach Ralph Perez sparked a fire under the men and led to the eventual game-winner just 1:02 into the second half when senior midfielder Max Bowman (Pa’auilo, HI) buried an impressive cross from Schunk into the right side of the net. The team continued to press for the remainder of the game and sealed the victory with a header-goal by senior forward Kody Andrew (Montana City, MT) off of a well-placed corner kick by Bowman in the 70th minute.

Senior goalkeeper Andy Roraff (Highland, CA) tallied two saves for the Bulldogs while sophomore Charlie Balter (Seattle, WA) recorded six for the Sagehens.

Redlands men’s soccer (9-2, 6-1 SCIAC) takes to the road on Saturday at 11 a.m. to face Caltech in Pasadena.
