The University of Redlands men's water polo team concluded
the first round of Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic
Conference (SCIAC) competition with an impressive 14-8 victory over
Occidental College. With the win, the Bulldogs carry an undefeated
conference record and earn the top seed into this weekend's
SCIAC Tournament.
Through two quarters, the Tigers kept toe-to-toe with Redlands,
holding a 3-3 tie into halftime. However, the Bulldogs began a
relentless attack to start the second half, burying seven
unanswered goals during the third quarter. In the final period, the
Tiger fought back with five goals but Redlands notched four to
ensure the victory.
Senior center Ryan Hall (Bellevue, WA) led the Bulldogs with four
goals, followed by junior driver Buddy Olds (Murrieta, CA) with
three. Sophomore driver Clint Stevenson (South Jordan, UT) added
two goals while senior driver Tony Rona (Mercer Island, WA), junior
defender Jim Kehrig (Danville, CA), senior driver David Mills (Los
Alamitos, CA), sophomore driver Brent Dotters (Porterville, CA),
sophomore defender John Floersch (San Jose, CA), and junior driver
Erik Grosshans (Oxnard, CA) all provided one goal apiece.
Redlands (19-11, 7-0 SCIAC) currently holds an astonishing 27-game
winning streak in conference, dating back to the 2005 season. The
men's water polo team hosts the SCIAC Tournament as the top
seed on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Looking to defend their
conference championship, the Bulldogs battle #8-seeded Caltech on
Friday at 7:30 p.m. in the Thompson Aquatic Center. For a complete
