Facing off against regional rival UC Santa Cruz brought out the best in the University of Redlands men's soccer team on Monday night as the Bulldogs cruised past the Banana Slugs by a score of 3-0. Traditionally meeting in the postseason, these teams squared off at Farquhar Field and provided a physical and exciting match for 228 fans.

Senior forward Alex Parker (Chula Vista, CA) initiated the scoring in the first half by heading in a goal off of a service provided by midfielder Bryan Fakkema (Oak Harbor, WA).

Senior Ross Schunk (Portland, OR) added to his already-impressive total of 12 goals and 25 points on the season by tapping in a forward pass from junior defender Jeff Willey (Medina, WA).

Junior Nick Gundersen (Park City, UT) provided an insurance goal in the 69th minute by rocketing a shot from the top of the box into the far corner.

In goal, junior Evan Hobson (San Diego, CA) made three saves to preserve the shutout.

Overall, the Bulldogs dominated play with 14 shots to the Slugs' six.

With the victory, Redlands extends its winning streak to 10 games.

The Bulldogs (11-4-1, 9-0-1 SCIAC) return to conference action on Wednesday when they host the Poets of Whittier College in a 7 p.m. game at Farquhar Field.
