The University of Redlands bounced back with a sweep of Whittier
College on Tuesday night, posting scores of 25-17, 25-21, 25-18.
After a back-and-forth showing in game one, the Bulldogs jumped out
to early leads in the remaining sets and never looked back.
After 11 tie scores in the opener, Redlands rallied to gain control
of the match with solid hitting from its middle blockers. Sophomore
Megan Phillips (Vista, CA) and freshman Emily Capozzoli (Poway, CA)
posted match-highs of 13 kills each, tallying hitting percentages
of .391 and .345 respectively. In the second set, freshman Allison
Light (Wildomar, CA) rattled off six straight points on her serve
to give the Bulldogs an early advantage. Junior outside hitter Ali
Massei (San Carlos, CA) made a similar contribution to start the
third, earning five consecutive points.
Sophomore libero Chelsea Arcaris (Vista, CA) racked up 18 digs
while Light dished out 34 assists.
The Bulldogs (12-12, 6-5 SCIAC) head to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps
Colleges on Saturday for a 6 p.m. match against the Athenas.
