Playing in one of the toughest Southern California
Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) road venues, the
University of Redlands men's soccer team (6-4-1, 5-0-1 SCIAC)
silenced the 155 people on hand, handling Cal Lutheran University
4-0 on Oct. 4.
On a rainy day in Thousand Oaks, the Bulldogs scored on four of the
16 shots it took and widened their lead in the SCIAC standings with
the victory.
Senior forward Alex Parker (Chula Vista, CA) found the back of the
net in the 17th minute, scoring off of a pass by junior midfielder
Cale Rodriguez (Norwalk, CA). In the final minutes of the first
half, junior defender Jeff Willey (Medina, WA) fired off an
unassisted goal to give Redlands a 2-0 lead going into
halftime.
Continuing on with what looks to be another stellar offensive
season, senior midfielder Bryan Fakkema (Oak Harbor, WA) netted a
goal off of a feed from senior forward Ross Schunk (Portland, OR)
in the 72nd minute of play.
Sophomore midfielder Gilbert Flores (Woodlake, CA) buried an
unassisted goal in the final ten minutes of action, solidifying a
4-0 win in favor of the Bulldogs.
In net, junior goalkeeper Evan Hobson (San Diego, CA) competed in
all 90 minutes of action, amassing eight saves and earning a
shutout.
Both teams tallied 16 shots and recorded eight shots on goal.
Mike Zubach drew the loss on the afternoon while the Kingsmen fell
to 5-6 on the season and 3-3 in SCIAC play.
