No. 13 Bulldog Men's Water Polo Snags Two Wins at Home

The No. 13 University of Redlands men's water polo team took two wins with ease on Saturday at the Thompson Aquatic Center, defeating the University of La Verne by a 17-4 final and UC Santa Cruz 14-8.

In the first game of the day, multiple Bulldogs contributed to the team's offensive success against their Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) foe, La Verne. Junior driver Taylor Swyers (St. Louis, MO), senior driver Andrew Becskehazy (Miami, FL), junior utility player Jim Kehrig (Danville, CA), junior center Brendan Meaney (Palm Desert, CA), junior utility player Ian Starkie (Arroyo Grande, CA) and sophomore defender Andrew Smith-Jones (Annapolis, MD) posted two scores each while sophomore center Miran Terzic (Mostar, Bosna i Hercegovina), freshman driver Ben Ballard (Riverside, CA), freshman driver Cabot Ferrill (Poway, CA), freshman driver Billy Brightenburg (Long Beach, CA) and senior defender Jon Rielly (Vista, CA) contributed one goal apiece.

Three goalkeepers split time in goal for the Bulldogs as senior goalkeeper Teddy Trowbridge (Mercer Island, WA) notched six saves, junior goalkeeper Matt Adams (Vista, CA) recorded three saves and junior goalkeeper Jack Amaral (Porterville, CA) posted one save.

Against UC Santa Cruz, the team faced a tougher test but emerged victorious again. Smith-Jones provided the fireworks with a game-high four goals while junior utility player Ryan Floersch (San Jose, CA) provided two. Also scoring for the Bulldogs were Swyers, Becskehazy, junior driver Brent Dotters (Porterville, CA), Kehrig, freshman driver Jeff Parsons (Newark, CA), junior defender John Floersch (San Jose, CA) and Rielly.

Both Trowbridge and Amaral tended the net for the maroon and gray and compiled three saves apiece.

Redlands (22-7, 5-0 SCIAC) squares off against Whittier College on Wednesday at the Thompson Aquatic Center for Senior Night. Prior to the game, the team will recognize its four senior members: Becskehazy, Kehrig, senior utility player Buddy Olds (Murrieta, CA) and Rielly.
