Down, 6-7, at halftime, the University of Redlands men's
water polo team appeared headed for an upset loss at home to Cal
Lutheran University. However, the Bulldogs battled back in the
second half to win, 15-11, on Wednesday evening in Redlands.
The Maroon and Gray jumped out to a 4-1 advantage in the first
quarter, but the Kingsmen outscored the Bulldogs, 6-2, in the
second period to gain a 7-6 lead. Redlands tied the game in the
third quarter and then built up a four-goal edge in the fourth
stanza that held solvent at the final whistle.
Senior center Ryan Floersch (San Jose, CA) led the offensive
charge, netting a game-high four goals. Senior driver Erik
Grosshans (Oxnard, CA) provided a hat trick while senior driver
Marc Hicks (Granada Hills, CA) and senior central defender John
Floersch (San Jose, CA) each found the back of the net twice. In
addition, junior driver Bo Sidhu (Indio, CA), senior driver Brent
Dotters (Porterville, CA), junior center Miran Terzic (Mostar,
Bosna i Hercegovina) and senior driver Clint Stevenson (South
Jordan, UT) offered one goal apiece.
Tending the Bulldog net, senior goalkeeper Teddy Trowbridge (Mercer
Island, WA) stopped eight shots. Cal Lutheran's Jordan Bouey
turned away six attempts protecting the Kingsmen goal.
The Maroon and Gray also boasted a 15-10 win over the Kingsmen on
Sept. 27.
Cal Lutheran (3-16, 0-2 SCIAC) will host La Verne on Saturday at 11
a.m.
Redlands (10-14, 2-0 SCIAC) next faces Whittier College in Whittier
on Saturday. Game time is set for 11 a.m. at the Lillian Slade
Aquatics Center. The Bulldogs defeated the Poets, 14-11, in their
first meeting on Sept. 26.
